Private pool or shared pool: what Bali rental listings actually mean

Every one of the 17 live long-term rental listings on Samba as of 2026-10-05 has a private pool, from 1-bedroom townhouses in Buduk at IDR 30 million a month to a 4-bedroom villa in Umalas at IDR 107.8 million. There are currently no shared-pool listings on the platform, but shared pools are common elsewhere in Bali, mostly in apartment complexes and townhouse clusters built around one communal pool rather than one per unit.

Private pool vs shared pool: what the terms mean in Bali listings

A private pool sits inside your own gated plot and is used only by your household and guests. It is the standard setup for a stand-alone villa, and it is also how Samba's townhouse units are built: each Tropicana Valley unit in Buduk, for example, has its own pool and poolside seating even though the units share a street and a gate.

A shared pool belongs to a cluster, complex or apartment building and is used by every household living there, similar to a pool at an apartment block. It is more common in apartments and some townhouse developments than in stand-alone villas. Neither setup is better by default, it depends on whether you want to swim without anyone else around, and how much pool and garden upkeep you want to be the landlord's problem rather than a shared schedule.

Is the pool private or shared? How to check a listing

This is one of the most repeated questions renters send Maya on WhatsApp, and it is worth checking before you book a viewing, not after. A clear listing will say it outright: Vila Lestari Umalas lists its pool as "Private pool (not shared)" in the feature list, which is exactly the phrasing to look for. If a listing just says "pool" with no qualifier, that is worth asking about directly.

All 17 live Samba listings are explicitly tagged as private pool, including every unit at Tropicana Valley in Buduk and every villa in Canggu, Umalas, Pererenan and Cemagi. You can also search directly by filter on /rent/private-pool, or message Maya and ask her to confirm before she books a viewing.

What a private pool villa or townhouse costs on live listings

Across the 17 live listings, private pool homes start at IDR 30 million a month and run up to IDR 107.8 million, with a monthly median of IDR 30 million.

For a full breakdown by bedroom count see long term rental prices in Bali or, for Canggu specifically, monthly villa rental cost in Canggu.

When a shared pool quote isn't actually cheaper

Samba's team has heard from a client who called a shared pool listing elsewhere too expensive — the expectation being that a shared pool should cost noticeably less than a private one, since you're splitting the asset with other households, but the asking price didn't reflect that. That gap is worth checking carefully before you commit. Against the current median of IDR 30 million a month for a private pool home on Samba, a shared pool quote at or above that figure is not obviously good value unless the location or inclusions make up for it.

Before agreeing to a shared pool unit, compare the asking price against private pool listings in the same area, for example Canggu villas with private pool or Umalas private pool villas, and ask what exactly the shared arrangement includes — pool hours, number of households sharing, and who pays for upkeep.

Pool maintenance and cleaning: what's actually included

Owning a private pool means someone has to clean and chemically balance it, and that is not always spelled out in the price. Of the 17 live listings, only two explicitly list pool maintenance as an included cost: Villa Umah Astanine in Buduk and Villa Swarna Umalas, which also includes garden maintenance, full-time security and daily housekeeping. The rest don't state it either way in their published inclusions, so it is worth confirming directly with the agent or with Maya rather than assuming it is bundled in.

Electricity is a related cost to check, since pool pumps run on it: across all listings, 9 include electricity in the monthly price, 5 exclude it, and 3 don't state it. Where to find a villa with your own pool right now

Private pool homes checked on 2026-10-05 are spread across several areas: Buduk has the most live listings, including the Tropicana Valley townhouse cluster, followed by Canggu, Umalas, Pererenan, Cemagi and one upcoming listing in Uluwatu & the Bukit.

If you want your own pool and a specific area, filter by bedroom count too, for example 2-bedroom villas or 3-bedroom villas, since pool size and setup often scale with the unit. If pets are part of the plan, note that 14 of the 17 listings are pet-friendly, including every private pool townhouse at Tropicana Valley bar one — see pet friendly villa rentals in Canggu for the full list.

Frequently asked

Are there any shared-pool listings on Samba right now?

No. All 17 live listings checked on 2026-10-05, across townhouses, apartments-style units and villas, have a private pool. If a shared-pool home becomes available, it will say so clearly in the listing features.

Is a private pool always more expensive than a shared pool?

Not necessarily. Private pool homes on Samba start at IDR 30 million a month for a 1-bedroom townhouse, which can be comparable to shared-pool apartment or complex units elsewhere in Bali. Always compare the actual asking price rather than assuming shared means cheaper.

How can I tell from photos whether a pool is private or shared?

Photos alone are unreliable, since a pool inside a gated plot photographed from one angle can look similar to a shared cluster pool. Check the listing's written features for the word "private" or ask directly via Maya on WhatsApp before booking a viewing.

Is pool cleaning included in the rent for a private pool villa?

Only 2 of the 17 live listings explicitly state pool maintenance is included in the price. For the rest, ask the landlord or agent directly, since pool upkeep costs and schedules vary by property.

Do townhouses in Bali usually have private or shared pools?

It varies by development. The Tropicana Valley townhouse cluster in Buduk gives each unit its own private pool despite sharing a gate and street, which is not universal across every townhouse complex in Bali, so check each listing individually.
